How do I burn out? | Burnout Ep. 197

from The Daily Disturbance · host Anthony Pangilinan

Not that I want to teach how to get there! Rather, it’s good to know your history…so we can explore ways to better evolve your story! 9 ways you can get there, or that got you there, what applies to you? Go deep and wide, and reflect, my friend. You do wish to burn brightly, not burn out. “Burnout is nature's way of telling you, you've been going through the motions your soul has departed; you're a zombie, a member of the walking dead, a sleepwalker. False optimism is like administrating stimulants to an exhausted nervous system.” ― Sam Kee

So, how do I burn out? This is the daily disturbance podcast with Anthony Fungina. Burnout is what happens when you try to avoid being human for too long. That's from Michael Gunger.

So, let's go straight to the sources of burnout. What applies to you? Number one, bad habits. Come on, too much of that TV series.

Not only deprived you, or is depriving you of sleep. It is also compromising, perhaps, your thinking, your view of life. Number two, only rise, limited rise. I carved this out of just the general category of bad habits, as it is a major contributor on its own.

Seriously, in an interview with an entrepreneur of a new company, Live Clean. Clean Living. Pinky, that's her name. She shared out her chronic fatigue syndrome, which compromised her life for almost a year.

Turned out to be mainly caused, not by over fatigue. Chronic fatigue syndrome. But by intolerances, her body had towards her diet. After all, it's true.

Most sicknesses start with what is prepared in the kitchen. And we rise. Number three, relationships. Those closest to you, Dr.

John Maxwell, will determine your level of success. So, think about the contribution of the people closest to you to your well-being today. Richard Blackaby, and I quote, leaders who insulate themselves from others and choose to bear their burdens single-handedly are designed for loneliness and burnout. Leaders like everyone else need friends, and perhaps in light of the low they carry, even more so.

So, the quality of relationships. Number four, the needs of others. We've said this before, need does not constitute call, just because there is a need, it doesn't mean you were meant to fill it. The need that you see must be matched with your ability, with your passion to deliver.

We are not the savior of the world, my friend. It's Jesus. And even he didn't meet all needs, all at once. So, I'm going to have to wait for the right time.

Number five, escape is him. Oh, I've already done this. You've been told you need to ask for help, right? You know you need to let go already of a colleague.

I've supported it. You have long been aware of your lack of exercise. Come on. But you avoid, you deny, you escape.

Raise your hands and this applies. Perhaps you've also been long convicted, and this is true for all of us, of a way of life that has hurt, not just you but others around you. My friend, we can call this him. Are we escaping from addressing them?

Number six, deep seated issues. It's so deep, you don't even know. Boaching, counseling, what else? Mentoring, advising.

There are some ways to draw out these issues that are so deep, but they're causing you real time stress and eventually burn out. It could be, for example, the fear of rejection that has kept you from proposing new ways of doing your job function better to your boss. But until you do overcome that fear, it's going to keep on wearing you out as demands grow, but your function remains so so. What are the deep seated issues that need to be drawn out and addressed in your life?

Number seven, overtime. That's another source. Come on. You are not irreplaceable.

You are not indispensable. Going over time simply means you've gone over. Too much. Now, while this can be justified occasionally, don't get me wrong.

If it becomes a pattern, then imbalance has become your lifestyle. And there is a price to pay, if not in the short term in the long run. You overwork a car, that body and that engine will eventually conk out. And conking out is the machine version of burning out.

Number eight, unhappiness. That's another source. The spark has long been gone. Now it may come back in the future, but it won't with the way things are going at this time.

Prolong unhappiness can lead to a more problematic state of mental, even physical health. Sam Ki, and I quote, burn out is nature's way of telling you, you've been going through the motions. Your soul has departed. You're a zombie.

A member of the walking dead, a sleepwalker. False optimism is like administrating stimulants to an exhausted, nervous system. Number nine, thinking thought or thinking or thought patterns. Okay.

The mindset has set you up. And I quote as a man thinketh, so is he. Now, for this point of view, Juliet Abodo says burn out exists. Think about this, because we've made rest a reward rather than a right.

Matthew 11, verses 28 to 30, come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me. For I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

So what are the sources? Be bad habits. You only rise. Our relationships, the quality of these relationships, and the needs of others.

E, escapism. D, deep seated issues. O, over time. U, unhappiness.

And D, thinking or thought patterns. That's what leads to you being burned out. Burned out. Once more, in Matthew 11, it's not do this or do that.

It's not stop this or begin that. It's come to him. Come to him. Burned out and all, and he will give you rest.
