How do I change someone else's mind? This is the day to serve as vloggas with Anthony By changing yours first. I took this two-year program on consulting and coaching for change in Singapore because I wanted to help change, right? The companies, the clients, the partners that needed to change, not realizing that the first six months, a full 25% of the program would have to deal with changing me first.
So how do I change somebody else's mind? By changing mine first, mind-setting and resetting by example. In a sense, people have to see you open your parachute first. Frank Zappl said this.
A mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work if it is not open. And I believe each one of us will have to embrace the reality, the need that you will be called to change someone's mind at some point in your life. Well, actually, even on a daily basis, right?
I mean, to to influence someone, to change somebody's mind, to allow you to step in, for example, an elevator, to correct a wrong delivery. What are the other situations? We have to change people's minds, too, to keep a distance from you, for example, right, to avoid COVID infection, or for a colleague to prioritize a call in order to come, you know, a shared client. Changing people's minds is part when you really think about it, of our daily routine.
Now, occasionally you feel a burden to engage with someone, to change his or her mind, seeing a potential disaster if the person will not redirect. Sometimes even a life and death scenario, then now it becomes a mission you commit yourself to. For some, changing people's minds is actually part of their calling, in my case, as a change agent, right? But as you know, me, the daily disturbance, I cannot change you.
I've adopted this mindset. I've embraced this reality that I cannot directly change people, but I can certainly disturb them. And to disturb means to open one's mind that may eventually lead to positive change. Let's pick up from Einstein.
How do I change people's minds? Create the environment. I do not teach, he said this. I create the environment in which people, in which my pupils, actually, he said, will learn, which means will change.
Now, think about this. The three motivations of a student. You want to create the environment or of a child, or of a subordinate or your own. The first is even going to change.
Fear has to set in. Force has to be used. So why do I wear a seatbelt? Because I am in fear that if I get into an accident, or not one, then I will perish.
Same with the helmet, same with the mask, right? Fear is a tool in creating an environment for change. Now, it can be overused and abused, right? But nevertheless, it works.
To a certain degree, the second one is hope. So we promise you the following benefits if you purchase this product, right? And if you don't quit, you know, I just might agree to be in a relationship with you. Hope, that's the second and the third is self-expression.
If you stop simply conforming, you can tell, equally, you've just begun your journey to becoming. Naksanamanu. That's Tagalog, Naksanamanu, right? You can encourage someone to be himself.
Again, Tagalog, magpakatu, too. Oh, and this is deeply inspiring. You know, this whole phrase of becoming the best version of myself. It's more than just hope.
It's really expressing who I am. One last technique. If I am to change other people, engage all their senses. Engage other senses.
Because when the sense of sight, of touch, of hearing, of seeing, of tasting, when all these senses are involved, a person is completely engaged. And you know this yourself. You will never forget the most moving, most influential experiences of your life are those that involved all your senses, whether it was a wedding day, Ryan or a corporate celebration, or a very intense relationship. Those that stay with us involve all the senses of our being.
So, let me apply that. Sense of hearing, but hopefully feeling as well. Smile though your heart is aching. Smile even though it's breaking.
When there are clouds in the sky you'll get by. If you smile through your tears and sorrow, smiling may be tomorrow. You'll see the sun come shining through for you. I can almost see it.
Come on. That's my own.
