How do we increase our ability to cope? | Stress (Ep. 8)

from The Daily Disturbance · host Anthony Pangilinan

We’re good at handing the blame to our load, the expectations of our bosses and the “external” pressures. “I’m stressed because of them/it”, we’ve said it all before. How about flip your perspective the next time you feel a little overwhelmed, and try looking inward instead? Anthony will be choosing one person to dedicate a free coaching session to. Next week, he will be discussing "Time Management", is that something you need guidance on? Email [email protected] with a brief introduction of yourself and why you would like to be coached on such! Special thanks to Jessie Lasaten and Cherry Bayle for our podcast jingle!

TRANSCRIPT · AUTO-GENERATED

How do we increase our ability to cope? This is the Daily Disturbance Podcast with Anthony Fung-89. Yes, we can lessen our demands. But the reality is, you say no to one demand, three come in, your inbox, as we used to call it.

It's nighttime and you're done with work, but you are not able to spend time with your children. What do we complain about? Ah, too much load. Maybe.

But what I see, again and again, in professionals I've counseled, it was not that they had too much load. They didn't have enough ability. Yes, we should manage. And normally, it's lessening our load and demands that works.

But in reality, bottom line, increase our ability. It's not a lot of homework. It's just a time management. You don't have more than enough that you can handle in terms of homework.

You just don't manage your time effectively. It's not that he's annoying. You're just not patient enough. It's not that he doesn't care or he's not thoughtful.

You're just demanding. Right? We just demand from others too much. Connect to your source.

Where do you derive your motivation, your inspiration? Who gives you your mouth? Major source of conflict at home is the source. Who has my charger?

Who turned off the Wi-Fi? If we're going to increase our ability, we must reconnect to our source. That's the first thing. Next, open yourself to a support system.

Human beings have existed for thousands and thousands of years. Some debate, maybe more. But ants, hands down, the biggest estimate, 150 million years. And you know why?

They have an innate ability to work in teams. They sacrifice themselves for the collective. Open yourself to a support team. How else can we increase our abilities?

Pass on the extra calories. Most health issues have their origins in the kitchen. Diet. D-I-E-T.

Did I eat that? If nobody sees you eating it, I love this quote. It doesn't contain any calories. What works for you?

I've been on a diet for two weeks. And all I lost is 14 days. Finally, if you want to increase your ability, sorry I have to say this. Exercise.

I remember over 15 years ago, MVP, as his nomads, he invited me to a game of squash, this is in Hong Kong. And I used to play, so I was pretty confident. But this guy was tough. In the end, I won 98 first game.

You know why I won 98? Because he gave me plus six. And in the end, he looked at me. In the eye, you're 20 years younger than me, and you're not fit.

And then he said this. It hit home. If you think you can succeed in business without being fit, think again. Fitness is not negotiable to productivity.

If you won't make time for fitness, my friends, you will make time for illness. So, how do we increase our ability? C. Connect to the source.

O. Open yourself to a support system. B. Pass on the extra calories.

And E. Exercise. C-O-P-E. Increase your ability to cope.

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
