How Do We Save 10% of our Drug Addicts?

Everyone wants a quick fix to the drug problem, but there is none.   I've been around drug use about 60 years and here are my observations on how people get addicted, why, and what can we do about it.  Since we are not putting much effort into saving drug addicts, the outlook is not good.   Until we recognize the role of compassion and mental health in solving the drug crisis and how truly powerful drug addiction is, we have no chance of stopping this epidemic.   The drug epidemic is a symptom of our culture.  Until we can see our role in the crisis, the drug addict has little chance of getting help from society, and being on their own is a very grave situation for them and us.
