How Gender, Attractiveness & Intelligence (Mis)Inform Our Expectations of Each Other's Agreeability

from Support, Protect, Empower - The Project Purpose Podcast · host Rachelle Innocent

How Gender, Attractiveness & Intelligence (Mis)Inform Our Expectations of Each Other's Agreeability Everyday we navigate a sea of strangers. If any of them are lucky enough to catch your attention, one of the first narratives you'll craft about the unsuspecting stranger speaks to your estimation of how agreeable they might be. Which serves to inform you on how much you think you'll like that person. It's time to address our unconscious bias. All the factors that tend to inform this "judgy" introspection? Your internalized norms about gender, how you rate them on attractiveness, and how intelligent you assume they are. All that informs your idea of how intelligent someone is right out of the gate is an entirely different discussion. But how many times were you pleasantly surprised? How often did you realize that the factors you thought would inform to what extent you could see yourself liking that person.... actually proved to be false? Yet why do we find ourselves still playing the same game? #mentahealth #unconsciousbias #agreeable Any questions?
