Q47. How could the Son of God suffer? Christ, the Son of God, became man that He might obey and suffer in our nature. The lesson explains that the Son of God could suffer only by becoming truly human. Drawing on Philippians 2 and Galatians 4, it emphasizes that Christ, though eternally God, took on human nature to live a life of perfect obedience and endure hell on the cross. Thus, Christ's incarnation was essential not only for obedience but for substitutionary atonement, for the redemption of sinners.
