How I use science to fight the fear of the unknown | Thoughts from an Engineer TIS#198

from Today In Space · host Alex G. Orphanos

This week I share my thoughts on how a scientific mindset can be used to fight the fear of the unknown. In these current times, its tough to get any solid information about a topic. Even the experts haven't had enough time to really figure out what's going on. Which means we have to settle for 'good enough'. But we can have standards.  Today, I bring back the concept of the scientific ladder of ideas to showcase how science values different types of ideas. The rungs of the ladder start from Hypothesis, to Theory, all the way to Law. I use current events to show how a scientific mindset can help us quell the fear of the unknown so we can focus on what's important and in front of us today.  Wishing you all the best in these strange times. Hang in there! We're here for you. Follow along on our adventure to donate PPE to those in need that we're 3D printing here in our lab. We also have some cool space gear we're making here in the 3D printing lab - make sure to share with your space friends and help support us! May 27th 2020 - Demo 2 launch of the SpaceX Crew Dragon to bring NASA Astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken to the ISS. A historic day when America will use its own spacecraft to bring humans into space for the first time since the Space Shuttle in 2011. MARK YOUR CALENDARS! We will go live that day to broadcast - more coming up this week. Be well! Get full access to Making Sense of the Future at todayinspace.substack.com/subscribe
