Jackie Evans starts with simple ideas. And from those ideas, Evans’ has written an EP of songs that feel out of time. The viral breakout hit “Most Of The Time”, the somehow-sweet kiss-off anthem “Leave You”, and the inevitable wedding favorites “Quit It!” and “Seven Brides” feel like they each could have been uncovered from a tape buried in the basement of the Brill Building or discovered in the back of Paul Simon’s notebook. And yet, perhaps inspired by a lifetime filled with Carole King and Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel, each tune is a perfect piece of 2020s pop written by this young New York City piano balladeer.
