Joby Aviation recently demonstrated electric vertical takeoff aircraft in New York, cutting what would be an hour-long commute down to under ten minutes. The catch? The company says the convenience could come at around the price of a premium rideshare, but early adoption will likely feel more like flying Uber for executives than public transportation. Americans will absolutely complain that eggs cost too much and then spend $180 to skip freeway traffic. Time is now worth more than money for a lot of people. People won’t ask if it’s practical—they’ll ask if they can expense it.
