How long should I make each episode?
from Ursa Minor Audio Hosted by Ursa Minor Audio
Tough to say. Obviously it's entirely up to you and how long you want it to be, but you have to consider what is the best length for the type of podcast you're producing. Here's some tips to help you gauge the right length for your podcast: * What do you want to talk about? Podcast can be long or short form. You have to decide which one of these is best suited to your subject matter. Stay on subject, go deep to connect to your audience, it's up to you. * You need time to listen before the next episode is released. If you want to produce a daily podcast then you should try to keep it brief so that your listeners have plenty of time to listen between episodes. If it's a weekly release then it can be a bit longer, and monthly longer still. * Monitor your competition. If your audience mainly listens to five minute podcasts then don't bother making yours 45 minutes. You need to fit your podcast to your audience and not the other way around. * How complex is your message? If you don't have much to say then there's no need to drag it out longer than it needs to be. If it needs to be concise then don't bore your audience with extraneous rambling. * Do you have segments? If there's multiple things you want to discuss, how do you want to split it up? Do you want to do segments in a single podcast, or do you want to give each topic it's own episode? Grouping things together can help to break up the discussion and maintain interest through the length of your podcast. The length of your podcast is ultimately decided by how much you have to say, but don't forget to listen to feedback from your audience. If your listeners want a short podcast then give it to them!
