How Medical Gaslighting Impacts a Lyme Survivor's Human Rights (BONUS PODCAST)

from Love, Hope, Lyme Podcast

This is episode 27 of the Love, Hope, Lyme podcast. Fred Diamond's popular book, "Love, Hope, Lyme: What Family Members, Partners, and Friends Who Love a Chronic Lyme Survivor Need to Know" offers those who love someone with persistent or chronic Lyme ideas and tips to support this beloved person. It also helps Lyme survivors know how to ask for support. On today's bonus podcast, we discuss the historic human rights challenges Lyme survivors have faced when seeking medical treatment. His guest Jenna Luché-Thayer is a former Senior Advisor to the US Government and the United Nations with more than 35 years' experience in 45 countries. Her expertise includes human rights and government transparency and accountability. Her achievements include shaping the World Health Organization's ICD-11 codes to recognize life threatening complications from Lyme, defining domestic violence as human rights abuse and initiating global human rights reporting on domestic violence, human trafficking and gender-based violence. She was part of the team that produced the peer-reviewed academic article "Medical Gaslighting and Lyme Disease: The Patient Experience." This article was featured in episode 26 of this podcast. When Fred was doing the research for his popular book "Love, Hope, Lyme: What Family Members, Partners, and Friends Who Love a Chronic Lyme Survivor Need to Know," he had no idea how frequently Lyme survivors were being gaslighted by medical practitioners. He also had no idea that the human rights of those seeking treatment were being violated. If someone you love has been afflicted with Lyme disease, watch this podcast now. If you have Lyme disease, listen for ways to get the support you need. The e-version of Fred's book is always free for Lyme survivors. Just reach out to Fred on Facebook or LinkedIn.
