How Much is Too Much for Ophthalmologists? - The Jon McComb Show - Mar 9

from CKNW · host CKNW

The province is, once again, planning on tackling the issue of doctors fees, as technology continues to make certain procedures easier. This as new numbers show BC's highest paid doctors are billing more now than they were before their rates were cut back in 2013. Ophthalmologists account for 18 of this province's top 20 billing physicians. It's been that way for a while, despite technological advances....one of the reasons the province cut rates for cataract surgery by 21-percent a few years ago. But an analysis by CKNW has found 17 of those 18 actually billed the province more in the 2015 fiscal year than they did before the rates were cut...on average, by half-a-million dollars each. A provincial working group will tackle the issue over the next year, to make sure fees lineup in changes in knowledge, skills, time and technology needed to deliver services.
