The Minnesota Golden Gophers are going to surprise many in 2023. By surprise, I don't think PJ Fleck will pull a season equivalent to 2022 TCU's out of his back pocket, but I think his team will surprise the nation with their physical toughness and a potent wide receiver and tight end group. Minnesota will no doubt be in the running for the Big Ten West this year, and even with Ohio State and Michigan on the schedule, it is possible for Minnesota to reach Indianapolis with a 9-3 or 10-2 regular season record. Athan Kaliakmanis is the projected starting quarterback for the Gophers, but don't count out Cole Kramer yet. Both are dual-threat players and have had their fair share of in-game experience. Regardless of who starts, Brevyn-Spann Ford, Corey Crooms, and Chris Autman-Bell will all be happy to assist in the passing game. The offense could have the Big Ten's 2nd best receiving corps, and the defense should reload under defensive coordinator Joe Rossi. I expect Minnesota to finish in the Top 3 of the division and maybe reach the Big Ten Championship Game.
