How School Counselors Can Work With Difficult Principal Personalities, Part II (Narcissists and Other Fun Folks)

It sometimes takes one or two different ways of approaching a difficult administrator to provide a change in perspective and develop a good working relationship with that person. Or many of you may just need to figure out how to just get along with a difficult boss until you can find another campus to move to or different district to work in. You may not have the luxury of moving on if the school climate does not suit you.This week we add to the profiles of the difficult personalities we discussed in episode 24 (the avoidant, histrionic, and borderline principals) to include the workaholic and narcissistic principal personalities. Do our profiles of difficult personalities describe every administrator walking the planet? Absolutely not. Do these one dimensional descriptions describe anyone perfectly? Absolutely not. And should we attempt to diagnose our bosses in our heads? No, we should not, my friends. We should not be doing that. But an honest look at some of these characteristics can provide us with  insight as to how to make our work lives a little easier as we endeavor to serve students and families within challenging circumstances.Mentioned in this episode:"Get the Job!"
