We challenge the idea that saving faith is something you can start, stop, and restart at will, and we ask the question that cuts through the noise: who does the holding, you or Christ? When salvation becomes a project you maintain, assurance collapses, pride creeps in, and the gospel starts sounding like spiritual self employment. We then turn to Romans 3:5 and follow Paul into one of the strangest objections in Scripture: if human unrighteousness highlights God’s righteousness, does that make God unjust for judging sin? We argue that this distorts God’s justice, minimizes the sinfulness of sin, and implies that hell can accomplish what the gospel could not, even though the gospel is the power of God unto salvation. From there we ground the discussion in key salvation passages like Ephesians 2:8-10 and the truth that believers are God’s workmanship, created for good works that He ordains.
