How shaving her head to loose weight brought this pro athlete to her knees: Kendall Reusing EP 99

from The High Cost of Anonymity Podcast: Exploring the Cost of Keeping Your Life Experience to Yourself · host Preston Moore, K Preston Moore

There are some conversations that check allllll the boxes... and this is one of them. I met Kendall when she was on Tea with Garyvee - #teawithgaryvee . What stood out to me was, she’s a professional combat athlete, jujitsu and wrestling specialist, business owner, influencer, was the valedictorian of her high school and has struggled with an eating disorder and body image issues most of her life.  One of the most profound things she said during our conversation was “From the outside looking in, I was living this big exciting life, training at the Olympic training center, living in another country, there were pictures of me competing everywhere... But my life felt so small and suffocating because all I could think about was what I looked like, how much I weighed, what I was eating, and when you were going to leave me alone so I could do what I want. I was the valedictorian who was supposed to go off to be some sort of superstar. I knew I couldn’t be that person so I did everything I could to look like I was that person.” Talk about a challenging place for someone to be. I think that symbolizes a place where many people find themselves... faking it, embellishing, pretending to be someone we aren’t, because if they knew who I really was, they wouldn’t like me or they’ll kick me out of the friend tribe.  The reason I feel these conversations are so important for people to here is, for some reason, I think everyone else has it better than me. I think they know what they’re doing, their life is amazing, they’re confident and don’t struggle. If I could just be like them or if I had enough money or if my life was different, I would feel better. The truth is, everyone, struggles with something. Often, they have a ton of struggles... we just don’t know it. So we find ourselves comparing how we feel inside to other people's outsides or what we see on social media or what we assume their life is like.  On this episode, Kendall does an amazing job painting a picture of life with an eating disorder and body image struggles.  She sheds light on how people can look "normal," healthy and as if they've got it all together and can be dying inside. Also, Kendall is an example of what strong recovery from the disease of addiction looks like.  Some of my favorite parts: min 47 where she talked about how success kept her from facing her problems. Min 50 where she talks about how compliments kept her sick. Min 55 her description of abstinence for her in Overeaters Anonymous (OA) and how abstinence and Recovery can look very different for people. Min 101 she talks about how much value she’s gotten from building a community of support around her. She us unexpectidly created a network of people who help her grow as an adult, spouse, mother (even though she's not a mother yet), business owner, and friend because of their common bond around food addiction and recovery.  If you know someone struggleing, have questions or would just like to connect, join us in our Facebook Group the Hight Cost of Anonymity Podcast FB group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/543980706306073 ALL THE PLACES YOU CAN FIND Kendall Reusing Instagram @kendallreusing KENDALL REUSING - Jiu Jitsu 🥇7x Jiu Jitsu World Champion 📍California, Body Positivity, Mindset, Love💫🤍 Twitter @kendallreusing Facebook https://www.facebook.com/KendallMarieReusing Kendall Reusing on Tea with Garyvee https://youtu.be/uhnMHUSCch8 @garyvee @kendallreusing
