How Stress Can Impact Your Immune System | Chantel Soumis Ep. 137

from The Modern Man Podcast

THE GREATEST WEAPON AGAINST STRESS IS OUR ABILITY TO CHOOSE ONE THOUGHT OVER ANOTHER. William James We've all had those moments where the walls feel as though they're closing in on us. We get short of breath, the beads of sweat start to collect on our forehead, and suddenly the room is on a spin cycle. If this has happened to you before, you know how quickly the feeling comes. Even further, you probably know how hard it can be to shake that feeling as well. Unfortunately, so many people find themselves in a highly stressed state for an extended period of time. The results can be catastrophic! Our brains, though amazing, are truly archaic. The fear of missing a work deadline or constantly trying to balance the budget and make bill payments gets registered the same as us being attacked by a saber-tooth tiger. Our bodies were not made to remain under this type of stress for an extended period of time or repeated on a daily basis. Because of this, the stress in our daily lives has the potential to really take a toll on our bodies and on our immune system. My guest today Chantel Soumis is a brand sorceress, sales and marketing magician, and an international keynote speaker. Her positive spirit and bubbly personality are sure to light up a room. (Let alone a zoom call!) What makes this amazing woman even more remarkable is her story of perseverance and drive. Drowning in stress looking for work, trying to feed a newborn, and struggling to keep the heat on would lead to a flare-up of Multiple Sclerosis. Losing your sight and the ability to walk is a scary and demoralizing experience at any age. For Chantel, looking at a long life ahead of her, 25 was too soon to call it quits. Hop into today's episode and find out how Chantel was able to let go of that stress, focus on gratitude, and lean into the network of support around her. Regaining her sight in one eye and being humbled by the mobility challenges are just a few of the countless blessings she acknowledges every day. In this episode we discuss: Turning a negative into a positive Never giving up Focusing on gratitude Setting boundaries Leaning into your support group Identifying your greatest weakness and more!
