How the Schooling System is Limiting Your Child's Literacy - Whole Word vs. Phonetic Reading Method
from Support, Protect, Empower - The Project Purpose Podcast · host Rachelle Innocent
How the Schooling System is Limiting Your Child's Literacy - Whole Word vs. Phonetic Reading Method We are discussing education this week and highlighting a specific deficiency within our education system: The Whole Word Method. In order for your child to learn to read, they need to learn how to identify the sounds that stem from each letter of the alphabet. Learning to read is learning to be able to crack the sound to symbol code that then opens the doors to understanding. The Whole Word Method doesn't do this, rather, it teaches children to read by memorizing full words, therefore putting a cap on their vocabulary. We are going to be diving into the history and the effects that this has on the generations that have been subjected to this approach.
