How to bodybuild for life with Emily Miller
from The Women's Fittest Podcast · host Debra Jean Terpstra
Send us Fan MailThanks for listening to another episode of the Women’s Maximum Fitness Podcast! In this episode #47 I invited Emily Miller onto the podcast. Emily is an up and coming figure competitor going for her pro card in 2021. The goal of this podcast was to showcase her bodybuilding journey but also to discuss specific elements of bodybuilding for newer competitors from the perspective of a newer competitor who seems to be all in but pacing herself for the long haul as a competitive bodybuilder. We discussed: Learning to appreciate your body through bulking and cutting and why both seasons are necessary for building muscle. Training details like: pushing to failure and what that means, rep ranges, when to break the rep range prescription while tracking reps in a log book, when it’s time to sub out an exercise, and recognizing when you can no longer progress with or connect with an exercise. Great info here!! Emily talks openly about steroid use and her thoughts on how they should be implemented. Throughout we discuss a subject I’ve been noticing for a few years now: whether newer female bodybuilders are taking drugs sooner (because many are progressing so quickly) or if they’re learning how to train smarter because of good influences on social media, better coaches, and/or access to more information on the internet to learn quicker how to correctly train and eat. Lots of emphasis on finding your passion for the sake of loving something and how bodybuilding is a selfish sport that you either need to be all in or just do it recreationally or for health reasons without the drug use. The Social media theme runs throughout this whole podcast and we emphasize using it to help you learn rather than idolizing people you want to look like. I emphasize especially how important it is to follow people eating and training to build muscle regardless of if their body type is one you desire because that is still the best way to get the body you desire. Sidebar: I learned how to train over the last 10 years mostly from copying training and diet style/tips of huge male bodybuilders on steroids who would share info with me through Facebook messenger. Now there’s a lot of women in the industry sharing the same type of info on Instagram. The path that is the quickest route to your most muscular (toned) and leanest body is training hard (like Emily talks about), consistently, with adequate rest and proper nutrition. Follow the women we talked about today and learn how to really train! Renee Jewett you have been nominated by Emily to share your journey and knowledge as a new pro competing in the new wellness division!
