How to communicate in writing. EFFECTIVELY! Episode 16

from Everbetter Ideas · host Kathy Howe

Have you heard of BLOT?  It stands for Bottom Line On Top and is an exceptionally effective technique for written communications. The next time you write an email, read it from the perspective of the recipient and determine if there is a better, more effective way to draft your message.  Things to consider: Is everything jammed into one blob of text? Are your questions clearly written? If asking multiple questions, do they contradict one another? Is your subject line a good indication of what you want?  For example, do you have a question or are you simply providing an update? If you need or would like a response by a certain time, is that stated in your message. Writing a great email doesn't come naturally to any of us on the first draft.  It's important to draft, read and revise your messages.   Contact me at kathy@everbetterideas if you would like guidance on how to use this technique in your written communications.
