How to Cultivate Optimism
from RiseUp - Live Joy Your Way · host Kamini Wood
Optimism is both a mental attitude as well as a personality trait and it’s often shaped by the perceptions we have about the world around us. Basically, psychologists believe your perception of reality determines whether or not you see things from an optimistic point of view or a pessimistic perspective. What is an optimist exactly? An optimist believes in positive outcomes and expects good things to happen. A pessimist, however, expects unfavourable outcomes. Optimists have a positive mindset that helps them see failures as opportunities. They see negative experiences as more of a temporary thing than permanent. They have a sense of confidence that they will succeed. Optimism is linked to better resilience, ability to manage stress, and health outcomes than their pessimistic counterparts. How do you get a bit of optimism? The good news is that it doesn’t directly come from your genetics. Your environment and your experience can shape your perspectives.
