Today, I’m thrilled to present our very special tenth episode featuring none other than Oscar Boyd. Oscar is a journalist, podcast producer, and the creator of Deep Dive from The Japan Times show. But that's not all—Oscar is also an adventurer, a mountain and outdoor enthusiast, and an avid cyclist. This passion led him to accomplish an ambitious goal: cycling across Japan, covering over 2,700 km in just one month. This journey took place between May and June of this year, and we discuss the behind-the-scenes details, planning, and preparation, as well as why Japan is a paradise for cyclists, even though cycling culture isn’t as widespread there. While I had Oscar on the podcast, I also took the opportunity to ask him how he landed a position at one of Japan's largest newspapers and what inspired him to create a podcast about events in Japan.
