How To Face Tough Stuff (10% Happier Self Care Journey) 12/26/19

from The Aaron Hill Podcast · host The Aaron Hill Podcast

How To Face Tough Stuff (10% Happier Self Care Journey) 12/26/19 ° We suffer because we think something is either a total mistake OR  that there's some grand "predestined" purpose for what's happening in  our lives. You choose the purpose based on your response to your  experience. ° Acceptance is the key to peace. ° Meditation and mindfulness teaches you how to feel feelings without being overwhelmed by them. ° There's not always rhyme and reason to why things happen in our  lives. If we think the stress in our life is a mistake or that something  has gone wrong rather than attending to what's happening we'll get  stuck in the story. Stress is apart of life and resisting it just  creates more tension and stress. (Sebene Selassie) ° Cultivating  the ability to be with discomfort and allow the feelings that come with  stress allows us to be with all experiences in our lives more fully. ° Ask yourself "what's happening?". Name and acknowledge the emotion  accompanying the stress without attaching the story to it, over  analyzing it or moving to problem solving. Just be with it. ° Try  to stay with what's arising, even if it's uncomfortable knowing that  you're building the capacity to tolerate what's unpleasant in order to  adapt and grow. ° If the discomfort becomes to much take deep breaths to relax the body. ° Asking yourself "Can I be with this?" helps to broaden your perspectives about what you're feeling. ° Ask yourself "Can I appreciate what I'm feeling". ° Take the time to appreciate yourself each time you spend a few minutes being mindful, meditating or breathing deeply.
