Aristotle used "eudaimonia" to describe the highest good humans can strive toward – to describe a life ‘well lived’. Some translate it as ‘happiness’. For Aristotle, it meant practicing virtues like courage, wisdom, good humor, kindness, and moderation. Perhaps "flourishing" or "prosperity" is a better word. They conjure an image of one who’s successful, healthy, and enjoys a good life, and perhaps a bit of good fortune.The Japanese have an ancient but familiar concept called “ikigai”. It means “a reason to get up in the morning” or more eloquently “waking up to joy”. It’s related to the concept of “flow”.
