How to get prepared for starting a business, going back to school or a job search- Part 1 from our recent Job Search Summit

from CareerJoy Conversations -Canada's Career Coaching

Were you ever involved as a young person with an organization such as Boy Scouts or Girl Guides? I started off in Cubs and went right through to Venturers. I had many interesting experiences, including falling off a 30 foot cliff in the middle of the night. I really enjoyed the structure, friendships, mentoring and the opportunities as a city boy to chop wood and camp (other than the falling off the cliff part) The one key life principle that has stuck with me is, "Be prepared". This week's Podcast is part 1 of a recording from The Nortel Job Search Summit that we hosted last week. Debbie Trenholm founder of The Savvy Company shares how taking an executive MBA at Queens, helped her prepare for her a career change from technology industry,to the wine business. I share how the role of building a personal brand, can help you prepare for career advancement and a give you the edge in a competitive job market. This week, 28 million kids in 155 countries are learning how preparation leads the creation of a better world through the Scouting organization. Whatever stage you are at in your career, whether shooting for a promotion or dealing with a lay-off, having a plan in place and being prepared for change will reduce stress, enable clearer decisions and the creation of a better work environment.
