How to hold Space
from Silent Screams Loud Strenght · host Samantha Avril-Andreassen, Your Host of Silent Screams Loud Strength
Holding space for healing means being present—with compassion, patience, and non-judgment—while someone (yourself or another) processes pain, grief, trauma, or transformation. It's not about fixing, advising, or rescuing. It’s about being there in a grounded, accepting way.Whether you're holding space for yourself or someone else, it looks like this:Safety over solutionsPresence over pressureWitnessing over controllingHealing often begins inward. Here's how to hold space for your own pain and growth:Let yourself feel your feelings without judging or rushing them away.Instead of: "I shouldn't feel this way."Try: "It's okay that I feel this way right now."Imagine how you’d care for a hurting friend. Offer that to yourself—softly, consistently."This is hard, and I'm doing my best.""It's okay to rest.""I don't have to have it all figured out."Let your thoughts and emotions have somewhere to go. You don't need to make sense of it all—just release. If someone trusts you with their healing, here's how to show up in a way that honors them:Let them speak freely. Don’t offer solutions unless asked."I'm here. Take your time. I'm listening."Avoid judging, minimizing, or emotionally reacting in a way that shifts focus to you.Instead of: "That happened to me too!"Try: "That sounds incredibly difficult. I'm here for you."Let the person move at their own pace. Healing isn’t linear—and neither is conversation."Would you like me to just listen, or do you want thoughts/advice?"Holding space doesn’t mean absorbing someone else’s pain or abandoning your own needs.Know your emotional limits.Take breaks when needed. It's okay to say, "I care deeply, and I also need a moment."Calm environment (low light, no distractions)Gentle breathing or mindfulnessMusic, candles, or grounding objectsA journal, cup of tea, or comforting itemHolding space is sacred. It says: “You are not alone. You are safe here. You don’t have to be anything but yourself right now.”Whether you’re holding space for your own healing or someone else’s, the core remains the same:Presence. Compassion. Non-judgment. Respect.Would you like to practice holding space for yourself right now? I can guide you through a simple reflection or grounding exercise if that feels right.🌿 What It Means to Hold Space🧘♀️ 1.
