How to Keep Going When You Feel Emotionally Numb

from Quiet In The Night · host Bill Scott

How to Keep Going When You Feel Emotionally Numb There are seasons when you don't feel much at all—no joy, no deep sorrow, just a quiet emptiness. It can be confusing and even frightening to feel emotionally numb, but you are not alone. The Bible reminds us that even in the silence of our hearts, God is still near. When Elijah felt exhausted and numb, God did not scold him—He gave him rest, food, and a gentle whisper of His presence (1 Kings 19:11–12). Sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is simply keep breathing, keep showing up, and trust that God is holding you when you cannot hold yourself. Isaiah 41:10 says, "Don't panic. I'm with you. There's no need to fear for I'm your God. I'll give you strength. I'll help you. I'll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you." Even when you don't feel Him, He is steadying your steps. So, when numbness settles in, take one small step at a time. Whisper a short prayer. Open your Bible and read a verse, even if it feels flat. God is faithful. And in time, He will breathe life and tenderness back into your weary soul.
