06-24-18 - Decoding: How to Know God’s Will - How to Know God’s Will - Scotty Gibbons 1. God has a plan for each of our lives, and His plan is ALWAYS the best plan. Psalm 139:13-16 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. (NIV) Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (NIV) 1 John 2:17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. (NIV) 2. God’s will is not a secret. John 10:3-5 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice. (NIV) 1. A commitment to discovering the will of God. Matthew 6:33-34 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (NIV) 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. (NLT) Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (NIV) Psalm 119:105 By your words I can see where I’m going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path. (MSG) 2. A true desire to DO the will of God. Psalm 40:8 I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart. (NIV) A. It’s God’s will for you to be saved. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (NIV) B. It’s God’s will for you to be spirit-filled. Ephesians 5:15-18 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit (NIV) 3. It’s God’s will for you to be set apart. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 It is God’s will that you should be sanctified. (NIV) 4. It’s God’s will for you to be thankful. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (NIV)
