are you in a winter funk let me say that again are you in a winter funk i mean weather is cold there's snow in a lot of places there's a wind there's rain this january just it's kind of putting a lot of people a lot of people that i know in a funk well let's lift ourselves out of that damn funk what do you say hi everybody welcome to the daily grateful i'm michael cross and i am here to lift you out of the funk not necessarily but i'm gonna try okay and there's some ways that we can do this and i kind of written down a few and one of the things that we do is when we're in funk we're negative all the time so you have to physically shift your focus in other words you have got to turn around and and look at something else like right now i'm in a funk i'm turning around and i'm looking at a painting on my wall i have no idea where it came from of a tiger that is just really weird i mean it's a weird painting every time i see it it makes me smile i love it now if i turn around to the other way oh guess what's on the other wall hey an original peter max that i bought in 1973 or maybe 72 but there it is hanging on the wall it actually belongs to my son zach i had three of them at one time but i'm down to one because i keep giving them away to children i gave tyler one i gave kyle one and this one is zach's and there's two other kids that don't get one but you know like those on uh but this one's here so because zach wants it to stay here feels safer having here and i feel good having it in my office and i look at it and it is man it is vintage peter max and it makes me it makes me you know and you know what else i do i'm very grateful that i have these paintings in here i used to have more but i put up all this acoustical tile i had to take some paintings down but i but the acoustical tile kind of makes me smile too because it has vastly improved the audio quality of what i do in this room so that's nice i'm liking that the other thing that you need to do is you need to move your body you need i learned this from anthony robbins in 1980 i don't know 86 85 86 you know you gotta get up you gotta breathe you gotta concentrate on breathing and move your body get your ass out and take a walk yesterday i was feeling and i just said okay the hell with this and i got out and i walked out my front door and my next door neighbor who just lost her husband was there and i you know i said this could be a depressing conversation but it wasn't she was very concerned about me she said i haven't seen you out driving around or anything in a couple days i was worried about you okay and i said yeah i'm great and how are you doing because her husband just passed and she said you know it sucks but i get through it and you know she says i go to the gym i said wow i'm taking a walk because i'm feeling yucky because we all have things that we feel yucky about especially in the winter so that leaves me to number three which is connect with others i connected with her can i be honest with you i knew her husband's name it was jay i have no idea what her name is and she has lived next door to me for 17 years her husband's name was jay they have two sons that live in the house with them and that are adults they go out and work but i don't know her name and that's bad but i connected with her so that was good today i've connected with a couple of people and that's you know really really good the other thing that you try to do and it's what i try to do is i try and do something creative for me there's two things that i do i do this i come in here and sit my butt down in the chair sometimes i stand as a matter of fact about a third of the time i stand and i need to increase that and stand more but i come in here and i talk to mr microphone mr microphone is a road procaster microphone dynamic in range and it is just a wonderful microphone i fell in love with it i met this microphone at a convention i don't know five years ago and where they had every microphone in the world that you could test and i have a really really higher end microphone that i'd been using but uh i sat down and i tried this at that convention and i'm kind of like i want to date this microphone and i'm telling you i want to date so i bought one i bought one a lot cheaper than the other microphone i have the other microphone i have is like a 500 microphone this is a 225 microphone but i love what comes out of it i love you know so i'm happy and i get very creative with this microphone the other thing i want you to remember is progress keep doing it uh scott smith of the the daily boost podcast he says something about massive imperfect action i love that i stole that from him i stole that and stuck it up on facebook massive imperfect action keep moving forward again talking about moving keep moving forward don't worry about perfection don't beat yourself up if you're feeling down it's okay to have bad days focus on making small consistent progress towards what it's going to do or what it's going to take to make your heart sing because that's what we're all in this for is to make our heart sing isn't it a couple years ago on tiktok there was a sound that came to it was a little song and i was got in the morning i was incredibly depressed just incredibly depressed and there was this this woman on there her name was captain nicky look her up on there she does boating and stuff in sarasota florida but there she was early in the morning and she sang a song i'm not going to sing the song i'm going to say the song good morning i know it's hard to get up because the sun's in your eyes and sometimes life really sucks but you've got this and hey you never know there's a million different ways that this whole day could go so i'm sitting here to say i'm sitting here to say i hope you have a great day yeah get out of your winter funk any way that you can get up and walk look at things that make you happy i'm looking at my paintings they make me happy look at my grandkids they make me happy i look at pictures of my grandkids that make me happy you know be creative and i was saying before there's two ways i do that one is come in here and talk to mr microphone and the other is come in here on my keyboard and type and i write stuff and that's what i've been doing today i've been writing stuff that's what i'm gonna do when i'm done with this podcast have a great day we'll see you tomorrow
