Scripture Summary:

The book of Ruth chapters 1–4 tells a beautiful story of loyalty, redemption, and God's providence during the time of the judges.

In Ruth 1, Naomi loses her husband and two sons in Moab and decides to return to Bethlehem. Her Moabite daughter-in-law Ruth chooses to stay with her, declaring, "Your people will be my people, and your God my God."

In Ruth 2, Ruth gleans in the fields to provide for them and meets Boaz, a kind and wealthy relative of Naomi's late husband. Boaz shows favor and protection toward Ruth because of her faithfulness.

In Ruth 3, Naomi encourages Ruth to approach Boaz as a kinsman-redeemer. Ruth follows Naomi's guidance, and Boaz responds with integrity and a willingness to redeem her—pending another relative's rights.

In Ruth 4, Boaz legally redeems Ruth by marrying her, restoring Naomi's family line. Ruth and Boaz have a son, Obed, who becomes the grandfather of King David, placing Ruth directly in the genealogy of Jesus Christ.

Key themes include: faithful love and loyalty, God's provision through unlikely people, the role of the kinsman-redeemer, and God's redemptive plan through ordinary lives.
