Liv is the creator and former editor of gal-dem, a magazine created exclusively by women and nonbinary people of colour. gal-dem is a rare print magazine success story, building a cult audience while simultaneously helping to change up the UK’s wildly white media landscape (94% of British journalists are white). Liv, who launched the mag when she was only 21, has been listed as one of the BBC’s 100 most influential women in media, as well as a Forbes’ 30 under 30. As she announces a major career pivot (she announced she’s stepping down as editor and CEO in September) we talk to Liv about the future of print media, how to balance being ‘nice’ with being a boss, and how to be a CEO in your early 20s.
