How to Overcome a Sinful Past

The Bible clearly teaches that if I am a child of God, I can overcome a life of sin. How do you overcome a sinful past? The Bible says we can. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away. Behold, all has become new."What does a person have to do to get the slate white clean with God, and to overcome the life he might've lived previously? it doesn't matter what you did, how bad it may have been, how heinous, how immoral, or how ungodly.
