Hey, how's it going? So how can you protect your network marketing business from social media algorithm changes? We see this all the time, right? This new algorithm, this new algorithm, this new algorithm. And a lot of the time we're like, man, what worked doesn't work, or I don't know what works. And then we get this feeling like I'm putting a lot of time into social, but if I don't even know if that's the right strategy, should I even bother? And this becomes challenging. So what I will say is that a lot of the time, these algorithm changes, they're not to be feared.
the only time you really need to fear something is if you're doing something wrong. You know what I mean? So if you're using sort of spammy softwares that aren't legitimately approved by Facebook, if you're, you know, trying to just get around, circumnavigate their rules and their regulations, that's when to worry about social algorithm changes. So just be a good person, be ethical, stop trying to cut corners and do things on the cheap. If you don't do that, then straight away, you can remove a lot of the worry associated with these things. Second of all, you want to build smartly. Build, think about the legs of a stool, right? The legs of a stool is at three legs.
And that forms a powerful base. Now, if you take one of those legs away, it's not as comfortable. There's a little bit of work required by your legs, but it will still stay stationary. It will still stay up. And you've probably seen some of those little stools that people sort of take to like sports events. Some of them just like pop out stools. They have just like one leg. It's like a walking stick, but with a seat at the top instead of a handle. Again, you have to use your legs even a little bit more now, but you can still take a lot of the load off of you and sit there comfortably. And so the moral of that story in terms of relating to this topic for you as a network marketer is if you're only building using social media, you have all your eggs in a very shaky basket that you don't own.
And so what you should be doing is even if you're using social, you should be taking those people and having them join an email list, having them join a community of yours. You should be using things like YouTube, which do appear a lot more secure than social. You know, YouTube is owned by Google. It's got website number one and two in the world. I mean, it's stable, right? Social media, it's up and down with fads. And so you should take a look at your business from a business perspective, not just a preference perspective and say, okay, I might think using Facebook is easy, but is it a smart choice for me as a business owner?
If you've got big, high-level goals, which I would think that you do because you've taken the time to seek out and listen to this podcast, which means you'd want to develop yourself, you want to grow, I would think that you want as a minimum a full-time level of income in your network marketing business, right? The point at which financially you can decide, I can just do network marketing because I can afford to, or if I want to do my job, I can just do the fun parts, right? You have that freedom, that flexibility. And so if you want to reach that level, that's like top 3%, 5% of the entire industry. And so if you want to do that, we've got to build like a business owner.
So you've got to start to see yourself as the CEO of your downline of your organization and start to build appropriately. Now, I don't mean go all corporate. This is still a people business, right? What I'm saying in terms of a strategic outline, don't think that you're going to build a huge business and it's going to be secure if all you're doing is taking pot shots on Facebook. I mean, no business has been built successfully that way. Like every now and again, you'll get someone come along who goes viral, right? Just a funny video they do or a post they do. People either aggravate them or entertains them and then it gets shared and shared and shared. Most of the time, they only really do that once.
They have no idea why it happened, and they can never recreate it. They end up with a bunch of engagement. Maybe they go big, maybe they don't. But it's like playing the lottery and thinking you're an investor because you've won it once already. And it's like asking a family to play the lottery because it's highly likely that, hey, they could win too. Well, it isn't. The odds are massively against you. And when you see these courses and programs that say, hey, here's how to go viral, if they knew how to go viral, they wouldn't bother teaching a course on it. They wouldn't bother.
Because why would you? If I could write one post a year and get millions and millions and millions and millions of people on an email list from that one post, that's all I would do. I would literally just write one post a year and then go live and do whatever I wanted to do. Would you not? And if I did decide to share it, the results would speak for myself.
Like I share tactics and tips on this podcast and in my courses on things I've actually genuinely already achieved myself. So you'll find a lot of the stuff that I do, I back up with my numbers, with my stats and my rank advances, with photos, with all that type of stuff. So a lot of people don't do that. You go over to their social media feed and they're like, hey, go viral. And you're like, you only got like 20 likes on the last post. Why are you using your own formula? So just be very wary of putting all your eggs in the social media basket. I highly recommend you use YouTube. I highly recommend you build a community. You do those two things, you're already much more secure because you have a channel of communication outside of social. And you also have a place where your audience can live.
where you can build value with them and you can also direct message them. So it performs the role of social without having that insecurity and there's no algorithms on those platforms. Well, there is on YouTube, but not on the community, so you get the best of both worlds. Next thing I would say is understand and appreciate that the number one way you can not worry about this kind of stuff is by doing better. Like I'm reading a book, like I'm reading books all the time. I'm taking courses all the time. I'm in coaching sessions all the time. I'm surrounding myself with high level people. I connect with people like in the industry. I'm always surrounding myself with people that are doing well, doing good, supportive, progressive, challenging, want to grow, want to see me grow, want themselves to grow, want me to challenge them. People that make me feel alive, that are sharp, that are going somewhere, that are hungry, that are successful. The average person is just a waste of time in terms of your goals and desires and dreams.
They're negative. They watch the news. They live on social. They think they're well informed because they scroll for two hours a day. Nothing against people like that. That's just not my thing. I don't want to live my life that way. I don't want to spend two or three hours a day staring at a little thing from my pocket that does nothing other than cloud my judgment and takes away so many other things if I chose to do that. I want to surround myself with people who are better than me, who are go-getters, who want to build something, who are passionate, who aren't afraid to say, yeah, that's important to me and I'm going all out to achieve it, who want things, who like fun, who like freedom, who like fulfillment, who want to make a stamp on the world so at the end of the day they say, yeah, the place was better for having me in it.
I want those people around me because I'm one of those people and I want to maintain that energy and grow it. And so I can't remember the point I was making, but you've got to invest in yourself so that your personal value is always rising. How did I build my audience? Sure, I have some tactical improvements that I made on the platforms that I use and I learned how to do well on those, but the massive, massive... The biggest impact was me constantly trying to do better, get better results, leverage those results, like show proof and work hard, learn more, get more coaching, ask questions, get around people, join stuff, buy stuff, invest my time, invest my money, invest my energy so that every few months I look back on myself and go, I'm way better than I was a few months ago. Oh, and I'm better again and I'm better again. That's a judgment. That's a decision.
That's not an accident. That's a predetermined game plan that I say to myself every day. I've got to read 10 pages of a book every day. I've got to make sure that I'm consuming at least 30 minutes of like non paid for content every day. Like I'm connecting with a certain number of minimum high level people. I'm always working under a coach. Like I'm always being mentored. There's a certain small core group of things that I always adhere to as well as my personal habits that enable me to grow as an entrepreneur, as a network marketer, as a coach, as a trainer, as a rep. Otherwise, I'm going backwards because time is passing. And so if you were to take anything and just one of these points away, it would help you. But if there was one to focus on, it was this one.
It would be that instead of trying to look for algorithms and cut corners and cheat tricks, you become the star attraction. You become better at inviting, better at promoting, better at closing, better at marketing, better at your own personal habits, better at peak performance, more positive, more polished, more professional, more passionate. You do those things and you continue to put that out there in the world. And what happens is people start to take notice of your improvement and start to want to listen to your voice. You can package it as pretty as you like. You can suit any algorithms that you like.
But if you're not delivering that same quality, people will overlook it. They won't even notice it. There's people that copy my stuff word for word. I've seen them do it, and they don't have a fraction of the audience. Why? Because this just ain't me. It's not their message. It's not their passion. They haven't earned it, and the audience can tell. You know, you can't fool people for long, and once you've fooled them once, they never trust you again.
And so for me, for you to safeguard yourself, it's time as an industry and as a race, as a human race, we stopped always trying to make things convenient through weakness. Now, if you're looking at something becoming more convenient because it enables you to do something more productive and better, why hand wash your clothes when a washing machine washes them better and quicker? That makes sense, right? But I wouldn't not wash my clothes and just spray some water at them because that's weakness. I'm being lazy. I know the job isn't going to get done.
So for you and your business, if you're using tools, if you're using software, if you're using algorithms, it's got to be because it enables you to do something better, to deliver better quality, to deliver more value, to do better numbers. It can't just be because I can't be bothered to invest in myself to gain these skills. So because I'm too weak to do that, I'm going to have to resort to trickery. You see the difference? One person invests heavily, gets really good, gets really passionate, gets good quality skills, and then uses algorithms and et cetera to reach more of the right people with that message.
A lot of people don't do that. They just copy paste the same old message without earning it and expect it to do all the heavy lifting for them. That's never going to work. Has this been useful? Has this been like, has this realigned your approach? Has it maybe adjusted it? I hope that it has.
