How to Refine Your Listening Skills

from RiseUp - Live Joy Your Way · host Kamini Wood

Kamini continues her conversation about communication and building healthy communication skills to help bring your relationships closer. Today, Kamini does a deep dive on how to have a great conversation through the act of honing in on your listening skills.    Listening is an act that requests attention over talent, over ego, and over self! Being a great listener is a vital skill, not just for your personal relationships, but for your professional ones as well. We often think about communication as our speaking ability, but through active and engaged listening, you can actually have a more impactful conversation because you have the ability to speak in a concise way that addresses the individual’s true needs.    Truthfully, speaking is not the hardest part of communication. It’s listening! And to clarify, listening and hearing are two different things. Hearing focuses on the words, listening includes how things are being said (which includes all the nonverbal cues). Great listeners, for example, have the ability to hold captivating conversations and are able to truly engage other people. They’re not waiting for their turn to speak.    To become a great listener, you have to be present with the person you’re talking with. It’s important that you are not distracted or too busy focusing on something else. Great listeners do not interrupt others. They stay curious, and they also repeat back what they’ve heard to make sure they fully understood what the other person said.    Continue Your Growth Journey: Kaminiwood.com
