How to regulate your emotions as a man

from Friend Material Hosted by Wes Lambert

You snap at your partner over nothing, or fire off the text you regret an hour later. In this Office Hours I answer a question I get a lot: how do I stop being so reactive? An emotion is a messenger. It's a temporary signal about what's happening and what you care about. Imagine someone pressing a knife to your arm. Pull away slowly and you're fine. Yank back and you cut yourself. Most reactivity is the yank. In this episode I break down what emotions actually do for you, why they're so hard to regulate (skills, mood, rumination, and being hungry or tired), and the trap of treating a strong feeling like a fact about the world. This is part one. Part two covers how to regulate them. Expect to learn: What an emotion actually is and why you have one every hour of the day The four goals of regulating emotions Why reacting harder makes the pain worse How emotions prepare you to act, communicate to others and speak to you Why the strength of a feeling isn't proof that it's true The Rep: name one emotion out loud each day this week Get Involved Work with me 1:1: https://forms.fillout.com/t/tMuQUix3EDus Join the brotherhood (Fireside, free): https://www.skool.com/fireside-1264 Website: https://www.weslambert.me Email: [email protected] Substack: https://substack.com/@weslambert Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5Yv1ciX90C3zdPxD67kjyY Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-mature-male/id1805978833
