What does the bible say about sloth? 2 Thessalonians 3:7-8 For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. (ESV) Romans 12:11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. (ESV) 2 Thessalonians 3:10 If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. (ESV) 1 Timothy 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. (ESV) 2. Why is this sin so destructive? Proverbs 10:4 A slack hand causes poverty, (ESV) Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. (NIV) 3. How do we slay the sin of sloth? A. Establish priorities. B. Take the right steps in the right direction. C. Be a hard worker. Colossians 3:23 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (NIV) D. Be diligent. Proverbs 13:4 The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied. (ESV)
