How to Stop People-Pleasing: There's No "No" in You Yet to Say (Ep 495)

from The Architect Speaks · host The Architect

Everyone tells you to learn to say no, as if the no is already inside you and only fear keeps it down. The skills camp and the trauma camp disagree about the block but share that one assumption. This episode takes it apart. "I'll try" might be the most truthful thing you say all day, the honest report of a self that hasn't formed a position and has never consulted the instrument that would.Going underneath the fawn-response reframe, it argues there is no no yet to say. People-pleasing isn't mainly protecting you from others' displeasure, it spares you the terrifying labour of having a position at all; every yes you hand away is a self you don't have to risk. Reading the room before yourself was adaptive in a tight kin group where survival ran through others' goodwill; among strangers, where you must author your own life from the inside, that old skill becomes a disability. The exhaustion is from living unauthored. The work isn't learning to say no, it's the slower, lonelier task of generating a yes that's actually yours, and the no appears on its own the moment there's finally a someone there to be disappointed.Links:To explore the work, start here: https://starthere.codexofthearchitect.com/go/pod-495It opens with a free book, Before Approaching the Threshold, and fourteen days inside The Atlas, an intelligence trained on everything written and recorded, there to think alongside you on whatever you're sitting with. Both are free to begin.
