In today’s episode, we listen to Michael Freeman, MD. Dr. Freeman is a psychiatrist, a fourth-generation serial entrepreneur, an executive coach, an entrepreneurship researcher and a behavioural health systems architect. Dr. Freeman studies issues related to entrepreneur mental health in collaboration with colleagues from U.C. Berkeley, the Gallup Organization, and other universities. His psychiatric and executive coaching practice is focused on entrepreneurs. As an entrepreneur, Dr. Freeman has held founder, co-founder and C-level positions with several for-profit and non-profit behavioural healthcare organizations. He is politically active in initiatives to expand access to and insurance coverage for mental health and addiction treatment services.

We discuss attachment, mental health issues that affect entrepreneurs the most, loneliness and aloneness, why it’s so “abnormal” to be an entrepreneur, and so much more. Michael uses his experience helping entrepreneurs through their mental health, along with his entrepreneurial experience and academic experience to paint us a picture of the difficulties we face as leaders, specifically as entrepreneurs, and most importantly helps us answer: what do we do about it?

Michael is the founder of Econa, the global centre of excellence for entrepreneur mental wellness. Founders can join Econa’s entrepreneur groups for peer support, personal growth, problem-solving and leadership development.
