How We Relate to God, Ourselves, and Others with Jesse Eubanks

from The Alli Worthington Show · host Alli Worthington

Welcome back, friends!  I can’t wait for you to listen to today’s conversation with Enneagram coach and podcast host Jesse Eubanks as we discuss his soon-to-released book, How We Relate: Understanding God, Yourself, and Others through the Enneagram.  Ok, so I’m going to come right out and say it… It’s very intriguing to consider the Enneagram alongside our relationship with God, isn’t it?! Jesse and I discuss so much in this one, including ways to experience more meaningful relationships with God, others, and ourselves. The value of understanding how we approach our relationships is the same way we approach our relationship with God as well. Jesse Eubanks is a certified Enneagram coach and host of The EnneaCast, a podcast exploring personality and relationships through the lens of the Enneagram. He is also the founder and executive director of Love Thy Neighborhood, an urban missions agency putting young adults on the front lines of nonprofit work. Jesse and his wife, Lindsay, have two children and live in Louisville, Kentucky.   Listen in to learn more about: The nine essential desires and how one comes to the forefront in our lives. Some of Jesse’s cardinal rules for using the Enneagram and why they are essential to consider. The three vital underlying emotions that are harming us and their antidotes. Favorite quotes: ~~“You can not have healthy relationships without self clarity. Self clarity is essential. It is essential for intimacy with other people, intimacy with God, and emotional flourishing. You need a tool to help you grow in your ability to see yourself from the outside and the Enneagram can serve you in that way. It will absolutely lead to deeper, more fulfilling relationships with God, other people, and yourself.” ~~“Our story that we have lived has a profound influence on who we are. We can’t understand our personality and our Enneagram type apart from understanding our life story.”  ~~“The Enneagram as a tool can definitely be utilized to help us grow in our self awareness and have an understanding of what’s happening on our end of the relationships we have with other people.”  ~~“It is really important to understand we are wielding something powerful when we look into the Enneagram and we suddenly have insights into other people. We have to approach that with a huge degree of humility, kindness, and empathy.”  This week’s coaching segment: A simple trick to make a new habit stick while giving yourself grace.
