from The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos Audio Podcast · host George Stroumboulopoulos

Howie Mandel broke into show business in the early 80's. Growing up in Toronto he was a notorious 'class clown - who pulled a few pranks in high school - and got expelled. By the time he was 24, he was in the carpet business. Then, in 1979 - during a business trip to Los Angeles - Howie's life took a huge turn. He and some friends went to the legendary club - "The Comedy Store."nIt was amateur night and Howie's friends convinced him to get on stage. Well, a producer was in the audience, liked Howie's routine and booked him for a TV appearance. Next thing ya know, Howie was opening for Diana Ross in Vegas and a star on 'St. Elsewhere.' Then in 2005, Howie hit it big again with 'Deal or No Deal.' Now he's back with a new show called 'Howie Do It'. It goes back to one of his first loves - pranks and practical jokes.
