Third year clerkships are an exciting opportunity for medical students to apply their knowledge and skills, care for real patients, and discover more about themselves. However, this year also harbors many fears in the minds of medical students: fears of judgement from harsh preceptors, fears of pimping in the wards and the OR, and fears of not living up to one's personal expectations. These fears drive many to adopt a fixed mindset in which they feel everything constantly scrutinized and pressured to perform perfectly at all tasks. Thoughts such as these can be incredibly stressful and damaging to students, resulting in emotional trauma and stunted learning.

In this episode, we discuss how to break away from this "fixed mindset" and how to embody a positively-focused "growth mindset". Join us as we explore how to set healthy goals for clerkships, how to manage anxiety and find harmony in stressful clinical environments, and how to grow as a clinician and learner.

Show notes:
1. Mindset (Carol Dweck, PhD)

2. The Shame Conversation (Will Bynum, MD)

3. Words Matter: Removing the Word Pimp from Medical Education Discourse
