Humble

Charles H Spurgeon While our society tells us that we should jostle for the best positions and be full of self-interest in order to succeed, Jesus makes it clear throughout the gospels that God's Kingdom works completely differently. Rather than be full of self-interest, Jesus commands us to be self- sacrificing. Rather than be served from lofty positions, we are to be meek and serve others. When Jesus told parables there was often a religious person and a "sinful person". To the shock of His hearers, the "sinner" was the one whose sins would be forgiven, who would be accepted by God. Again this is the case. The proud, God will make low. The humble, God will exalt. And true Christians humility finds itself at the cross of Jesus. We are humbled when the cross is in view because we recognize our dependence on the grace of God. It is there that we receive grace and it is there that we find peace.
