Humbly Love to Give - Fr. Micah - May 31, 2020

from Holy Trinity + Holy Cross - Sermons · host Holy Trinity + Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral

Today is the Sunday of the Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council. Father Micah encourages us to know that words have the power to lift us up and can become life to someone who is hurting. Scripture tells us that no man ever spoke like Jesus Christ and that the words He spoke came from The Father. He also reminds us that it is a mistake to read Scripture outside of the Church, which is what condemned Arius at the First Ecumenical Council. The Epistle comes to us from Acts 20:16-18;28-36 wherein Saint Paul shares these powerful words of Christ, “It is more blessed to give than to receive." Father Micah shares the two keys to unlocking power from the words of Christ; humility and love. He brings the words of Christ to life with scriptural references of Abraham, Joachim and Anna, The Theotokos and the Myrrh Bearing Women. May we give ourselves to the other, our breath in prayer and hymns and our broken sinful hearts to God as we seek His Kingdom.
