“Humility & Resistance” (1 Peter 5:6–11)

Sermon Series: Between Two Worlds   Speaker: Pastor Josh Sherrell   __________     Description:  Nearing the close of the letter, Peter (i) encourages these believers to rest their hope in God’s loving care by giving their cares to him, (ii) exhorts the believers to stay ready for the fight and resist the enemy in faith, mindful of the countless others who share in their suffering, and (iii) calls their gaze upward to God’s gracious work in fulfilling his promises to and for them by the eternal dominion that belongs to Christ alone.   __________   Main Idea: Entrust your souls to God’s care, resist the enemy in faith, and wait for the hope of certain victory.   __________   I.Your God cares for you. (5:6–7)       a.Humble yourselves under his mighty hand.       b.Wait on his salvation.       c.Entrust your cares to his loving hands.   II.Your enemy is active. (5:8–9)       a.Stay ready for the fight.       b.Resist the enemy in faith.       c.Remember you are not alone.   III.Your Victor is coming. (5:10–11)       a.Suffering is temporary.       b.God will bring you to glory.       c.Christ’s kingdom is forever.   __________
