Hundreds of jobs saved as Montco beef processing plant restructures facility
from KYW Newsradio Audio On-Demand
Hundreds of jobs will be saved at a beef processing plant in Montgomery County that was slated to shut down this Friday. JBS says it will convert its facility in Souderton to make packaged meat ready to be sold in stores. The company says that will preserve 400 jobs. It had announced in June that 1,500 workers would be laid off from the meatpacking plant. JBS credits Gov. Josh Shapiro, county officials, and the United Food and Commercial Workers union for the shift. The company plans to spend more than $30 million over the next 10 years to modernize operations in Souderton. (Brice Tucker/MediaNews Group/Greeley Tribune via Getty Images)
