Hunger Task Force, Moon Tunes, and Food Drive Fridays

As increased demand affects food pantries in the area, the Hunger Task Force partners up with Moon Tunes organizers for a special drive at Thursday's concert in Riverside Park in La Crosse. Executive Director Shelly Fortner said they're seeing about 30-percent more people needing food assistance at the 128 pantries and food programs they serve. It's left their warehouse stocks low. After reaching out to Moon Tunes organizers, Fortner said they set up a special donation drive where people can donate money or non-perishable items as they enter the park to enjoy the performance. If you can't stick around, they've got that covered, too. "Even if you're not going to enjoy Moon Tunes, this is a drive through. Drive through Riverside Park, drop off your donations, and listen to a few tunes on your way back out," said Fortner. Moon Tunes runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Speaking on La Crosse Talk on Wednesday, Fortner also talked about a returning effort this month. Food Drive Fridays happen on July 11, 18, and 25 at two locations in the area. One is at the Hy-Vee La Crosse parking lot off Highway 16 by Valley View Mall. The other is the old Kmart parking lot off Losey Boulevard in La Crosse. Between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., volunteers from area Rotary clubs, Great Rivers United Way, WKBT, and Midwest Family are collecting donations at these drive through events.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
