Afterwards, he parties and does drugs with his manager, Lee. Despite encouragement from Lee, Abel suffers from a lack of desire to perform due to growing depression following a recent break-up. Meanwhile, Anima, a fan of Tesfaye's music, sets a house on fire before driving to Los Angeles to Abel's next concert, avoiding messages from her mother. Before the concert, Abel is diagnosed with muscle tension dysphonia and considers cancelling, but is convinced to perform by Lee. Before embarking onstage, Abel leaves a foul-mouthed voicemail to his ex-girlfriend, blaming her for his depression. Anima sneaks into the concert, where Abel loses his voice and abruptly walks offstage. Anima then sneaks backstage and meets Abel. Intrigued, Abel waves away security and spends the night with Anima in Pacific Park and later, at a hotel. Anima breaks down after Abel plays a portion of the song, "Hurry Up Tomorrow", relating to its themes of loneliness and abandonment. The following day, as Abel readies to return to his tour, he overhears Anima and her mother arguing on the phone about the arson. Anima aggressively prevents Abel from leaving, asking him to emotionally open up to her, but he dismisses her. Angered, Anima knocks him unconscious by hitting him with a champagne bottle. Abel then has a vivid nightmare of walking alone from the hotel room onto the streets, with his childhood self staring back at him.Abel wakes up tied to the hotel bed. Anima dances to his songs "Blinding Lights" and "Gasoline" while analyzing their recurring themes of toxic relationships with women. Abel refuses to discuss the songs with her. Lee arrives to find Abel, having tracked his phone to the hotel. Anima opens the door and tries to get him to leave, pulling out a knife when he refuses. After a violent struggle, Anima fatally stabs Lee in the neck. Anima then douses Abel with gasoline, threatening to burn him if he doesn't emotionally open up to her. Abel finally speaks to Anima, pacifying her by singing “Hurry Up Tomorrow". She then releases him from the bed and sets the room on fire as she leaves.Abel exits the hotel room, which leads him directly backstage before a concert.
