Husky Talk- Robert "Reggie" McClain

Husky Talk was able to have a guest who has a wonderful story, and played in the NFL for 8 years, UConn Football Defensive Back Robert McClain. This was my first time meeting him, what an impressive, respectful, young man who has a desire and earned all his success. People can register to learn about the election process, who is running in their area, and what they need to do in order to vote. Robert grew up in a military family that moved around the country. His big break came when he was playing high school football in Maryland because he never came off the field. Playing Running Back, Wide Receiver, Defensive Back, Linebacker, Special Teams, he returned kicks, punts, filled the water bottles and cleaned the locker room. Kidding on the last two, but he did it all and was a special talent, a once in a generation athlete. After running a 4.3 in the 40-yard dash at the Penn State camp, Robert became highly recruited. Rivals only had him as a 2-star player and they clearly were way off. He decided to go to UConn and had a legendary career. After enduring the tragic death of UConn DB Jasper Howard, Reggie, as he was called at UConn, took charge on defense. He stepped up as a leader because younger guys were forced into action. Reggie was part of the 2007 team that won its first Big East Championship, 2009 team that upset Notre Dame in double overtime. Finishing his career in the Papa Johns Bowl defeating South Carolina and coach Steve Spurrier. Graduating early, he trained for the NFL and was drafted by the Carolina Panthers. Reggie had a successful career in the NFL which lasted 8 seasons. Attributed to his work ethic, intelligence knowing the schemes, speed, hard hitting, and passion. He was part of two NFC Championship teams with the Panthers and played in a Super Bowl. I was always a fan of Robert, watching him play with intensity and reckless abandon. He was part of the best recruiting classes in UConn history, sending players to the NFL regularly. What a journey, an amazing story, and a great young man. Robert is also a talented artist.
