I Always Knew I'd Write This Book — On Writing, Healing, and Rituals That Heal
from Healing is F*ing Hard · host Darryn Robinson, MS, LPCC
Before I became a therapist, before I had any of the clinical or spiritual frameworks I work with today, my dream was to write. My first published poem was written when I was five years old, and writing has been the way I have regulated, processed, and made sense of my life ever since. This episode is about my completed book, Rituals to Heal: Using Sacred Practice to Restore Your Nervous System, and about what it means to write about healing while actively living inside your own.The book opens with an image of my mother filling a bathtub and blasting Mahalia Jackson before going to battle every morning as a Black woman engineer in a white male dominated corporate world. She didn't call it ritual. She called it getting ready for work. This episode is about how I finally found the clinical and spiritual language for what she was doing, why this book exists, and who it is for.Find me on Instagram, Threads or Twitter @darrynkrobinson.
