'I AM' by Michael Gungor

from The Sound of Healing · host Jason Amoroso

In this episode of The Sound of Healing, Jason Amoroso sits down with Grammy-nominated musician, author, and podcaster Michael Gungor to explore his powerful song, “I AM,” from his album Magnificat.🎵 Listen to “I AM” on Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/track/7C9pqrrEUoukBd3O1HzrcU?si=ef5bab3c295d49eeThe album came together during a chaotic and deeply personal season in Michael’s life. As wildfires swept through Los Angeles, Michael developed Bell’s palsy, leaving half of his face temporarily paralyzed. As sensation slowly returned, he experienced his body “welcoming itself home,” an experience that became part of the heart of Magnificat.Together, Michael and Jason explore “I AM” as more than an idea about God. Michael describes it as a spiritual practice, or “technology,” that can lead us beyond our thoughts, identities, and stories and into the direct experience of presence.Their conversation moves through the illusion of separation, the healing intelligence of the body, the mystery of Christ beyond religious dogma, and Jesus’ words, “Before Abraham was, I AM.”Michael also offers a provocative reflection on the cross and the anti-Christ: how religion can take something alive, fluid, and constantly being reborn and turn it into something static, permanent, and controllable. When the Church keeps Christ frozen on the cross, Michael suggests, it may be participating in the very energy that continually seeks to crucify Christ. They also explore breathwork, the courage it takes to feel what we are feeling, and what Michael calls the “death vortex”: the gradual letting go of who we thought we were so that we can become more fully present to life, freedom, and love.Michael shares the story of Ram Dass giving him the name Vishnu Dass, why that name served as an invitation back into his heart, and why he eventually no longer needed it.This is an expansive, provocative, and deeply human conversation about Jesus, healing, embodiment, identity, mystery, and the love already present within the most ordinary moments of our lives.Connect with Michael Gungor🌐 Website:https://www.gungormusic.com/📸 Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/michaelgungor/🔗 Music, podcasts, and additional links:https://linktr.ee/Michaelgungor🎧 Loving THIS Podcast:https://open.spotify.com/show/63azyKLJ9gmzUUi07OjMfQCurious About Trying Revelation Breathwork? In this conversation, Michael and Jason explore how breath, music, and presence can help us move beyond our thoughts and experience what is alive within us.If you’re curious to experience Revelation Breathwork for yourself, we’d love to have you join us.🎁 Your first class is FREE!Use code: FIRSTCLASSJoin here:https://revelation-breathwork.heymarvelous.com/product/94215About The Sound of HealingThe Sound of Healing is a podcast exploring the music that moves us, heals us, and reminds us who we are.
